HAPPY 185TH BIRTHDAY - UNIVERSITY OF WESTMINSTER!

185 years ago today, Sir George Cayley opened the Polytechnic Institution at 309 Regent Street in London.   Since then, the UoW educational institution has secured its reputation as a place for firsts:   ⭐️ 1st polytechnic in London and one of the first in the UK (1838)⭐️ Opened the 1st public photographic portrait studio in Europe (1841)⭐️ Hosted the 1st public moving picture show in the UK, organised by the Lumière brothers (1896)⭐️ Organised the 1st marathon race (at the London Olympics) over the now traditional distance of 26 miles, 385 yards (1908)⭐️Offered the 1st degree courses in Photographic Science, Photography, and Media Studies (1960s and 1970s)   Westminster Business Council is proud to have the University of Westminster as members of our thriving community.  The University embodies everything that WBC loves about organisations in our great city.   If you'd like to know more about the University and how you can support them and their students, please contact Tom Ashman: [email protected]
